  30. In your original posting, you mentioned that a green-screen chroma key
  31. didn't work. An alpha channel would, but you'll need four VCR's and four
  32. tapes, one for each of the following:
  33.  
  34. (1) Animation
  35. (2) Alpha Channel
  36. (3) Live background footage
  37. (4) Recorder
  38.  
  39. Set up Lightwave to save out your Alpha channel as 24-bit. You want it as a
  40. seperate set of files, all on their own. I'm not sure what kind of video
  41. output card you're using, but some don't like 8-bit greyscale images. 24-bit
  42. looks exactly the same, and is a safer bet.

  44. Lay this Alpha animation off the same as you do the main one, except put
  45. them each on a different tape. It would help if both tapes and both
  46. animation start points had the same exact time code. If this is not
  47. possible, add a flash frame followed by ten frames of black BEFORE each
  48. animation begins on their respective tapes. This will allow you to easily
  49. lock them together, even with time codes that don't match.

  51. Since you have a switcher with alpha keying, you are probably familiar with
  52. what to do next. VCR-1 plays your animation, VCR-2 provides the hole cutter,
  53. and VCR-3 runs the background footage. It should make for the cleanest damn
  54. key you ever saw.
